Everyone knows there really is something special about being around, in, or on the water. There’s
nothing quite like it!  We all know the feeling but it’s difficult to put into words.  Phrases like,
“It’s so relaxing,”
“It restores my spirit,” “Uplifting,” “Back in touch with nature,”
“Peaceful,” “Fun,” we hear all the time.  Whichever phrase works for you, being on the Chesapeake
Bay with friends or family is an uplifting experience!  Add to that being on the bay aboard a sailboat
harnessing the raw power of the wind is not only uplifting but exhilarating as well.

Listen to what some of our participants have to say.

“We want to thank you and your crew once again for the wonderful afternoon.  It has been a long
time since we have been able to relax and put our concerns and fears aside for a few moments.
As you know when you are constantly under pressure and constantly in fear there is no time to enjoy
life.  What you offered my family was a few moments of peace…”  M. Allen, parent

“The relaxing environment you provide via your sailing trips means so much to the families that attend.
These adventures not only help our kids get away from the daily grind of hospital visits and medical
treatments, but give them hope by allowing them to focus on something fun and positive.”
C. Wargo, Believe In Tomorrow National Children’s Foundation

“There are not enough words to express my deep sense of gratitude to you for providing the sailing
opportunity for my students.  It has been heartwarming for the past two weeks to see them have the
opportunity to be children and to see their worlds brightened by this experience….”
L. Barnett, social worker Baltimore city Schools

“I have seen timid children…quickly evolve into fun-loving, enthusiastic, curious, and gregarious sailors,
seemly oblivious to the medical conditions they have to live with.”
G. Small, crewmember

“I sailed on the Recovery today, May 20, 2003.  I had lots of fun. I really liked the boat.  It was “tight”.
I hope I get the chance to sail with you again.”  3rd grader Baltimore City schools

"What words could we ever have to thank you for a most breath-taking wonderful experience... you helped create a wonderful memory in our hearts.  Bless you all for being so generous with your time, energy, and resources."

"We want thank the Cameron family for their generosity of giving us a wonderfully delightful sailboat ride and lunch.  It was a very enjoyable day and the company (Wayne and his helper) were very friendly and pleasant.  We are thankful and grateful we had the opportunity to go sailing.  We appreciate your kindness."

"Thank you for inviting our family to ride on your sailboat.  It was a lot of fun for me.  I learned a lot about sailboats on the trip...My favorite part was when we got splashed when we were on the bow.  On the bow, I got to take a picture of my dad, even when the boat was rocking.  It came out really nice.  The meal was really yummy...I loved driving the boat...I always wanted to drive a car or something with an engine.  I finally got my wish...I hope I get another chance to a boat again."

SAR firmly believes that by helping to provide peace of mind, relaxation and a positive outlook we
contribute to maintaining good health and welfare to the families and children we serve.
