During the summer of 2004, SAR organized a bay-wide network of volunteer
captains and their boats to help us expand our outreach. The Recovery Fleet
helped us go from 31 trips a summer to over 60 trips in 2004!
Children with cancer, who are under treatment, may not want not travel
long distances to meet our flagship Recovery in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore.
With the Recovery Fleet captains, we match up a family to one of our captains
who is close to where the family lives!
Two yacht clubs, North East River Yacht Club and Fells Point Yacht Club,
had members volunteer for our Recovery Fleet. The cruises were club sponsored
events!
SAR furnishes everything the Recovery Fleet captains need---gifts
for the children, and funds to cover food for the families.
The gifts the kids get are---Honorary 1st Mate Certificate, baseball cap and
embroidered patch.
We hope to continue to expand our Recovery Fleet and thereby increase
our outreach to children and their families in our region.
